This word has been extensively used toward the end of 2008 and will continue to become popular throughout 2009. The obvious question: why? The loss of jobs, the horrendous stock market, inflation, and everything else that has been happening around us because of the bad economy. This can easily put anyone’s mind in the gutter. I personally believe that most people right now have a terrible mindset. Unfortunately, most people don’t realize that you have 100% control over your mindset. You have complete control over your emotions and the decisions you make
So what exactly is mindset?
Mindset is a habitual or characteristic mental attitude that determines how you will interpret and respond to situations. To simplify, it means you do the things you do based on what goes on in your mind at the current period of time.
Proactive Mindset vs. Reactive Mindset
Reactive people simply react to what’s happening around them and transform themselves into a negative mindset, whilst proactive people choose how they walk, talk, and feel regardless of the conditions around them enabling them to have a positive mindset.
4 ways to have a positive mindset
- Hang around the right people: I wrote an article just yesterday about this called: Do You Have a Friend Who’s a Looser? Get Rid of Em!
- Be Grateful: This is easy! We all know about the things that go wrong in our lives because we’re frequently talking about them throughout the day. What about the things that are going right? You should tell people! Don’t just write down 5 things you’re grateful for, tell someone! Leave a comment below so you can have thousands of people everyday know what you’re grateful for.
- Starting your mornings the right way: Instead of waking up at 10am, wake up at 6am or earlier. The average human being sleeps through 1/3 of their entire life! Sleep when you’re dead! Wake up early and take a morning walk, exercise, or even practice the art of meditation. Mentally prepare yourself for the rest of your day.
- Affirmations: I personally think affirmations work, but people really don’t like doing them. So as an alternative to saying them out loud. Imagine yourself after you wake up from bed, jumping up and down and screaming your affirmations aloud like a banshee. Again, don’t say them out loud, but physically get your body into it by tightening up, clenching your fist, or raising your hands in victory! If that doesn’t get your adrenaline pumping, maybe you should go run with the bulls.
Keep in mind: There are more millionaires made after a bad economy then in a good economy. So if your goal is to become rich and make lot’s of money, now is your time to shine!
There are several ways to have a positive mindset, what do you do? Also, write down at least 1 thing that you’re grateful for.
Warren Buffet always invests when there is blood on the street. Find something that’s undervalued, and seize the opportunity.
Warren Buffet is one brilliant man. Now is the perfect time to take advantage of everyone who has hit their all time low. This maybe a once in a life time opportunity!
I have this attitude posting on my office walls by Charles Swindoll:
“The longer is live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company … a church … a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude … I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you … we are in charge of our Attitudes.”
Great quote Harnish. I will be writing something about attitude in the upcoming weeks so I will reference his quote.
“..10% what happened to me, 90% how I react to it..)
That’s the psalm of the quote. We cannot change the past or the future we can only change ourselves and our attitudes.
